With the Qatar International Food Festival (QIFF) 2015 drawing huge crowds, hotels and restaurants participating in the event are seeing sales surpass last year’s.
“We are experiencing a significant increase in sales this year,” an official of a hotel told Gulf Times yesterday.
“Thousands of visitors are converging at the Museum of Islamic Art Park since day one to savour different kinds of dishes, drinks and delicacies offered at the festival,” he said.
Stalls offering Thai, Arabic, Indian and Malaysian cuisines attracted long queues of customers.
A staff member of another hotel said they expect their sales to increase by 75 to 100% this year. “The turnout is much bigger since the festival has been extended from four to five days,” he pointed out.
Turkish and Arabic sweets, crepes and flavoured popcorn were some of the favourites, besides cakes offered by coffee shops and other stalls.
The “Dine in the Sky” event hosted by Qatar Airways served a delegation from the Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of Special Needs yesterday.
Hamad al-Khaja from the Qatar Tourism Authority and Nabeela Fakhri, senior vice president of Human Resources Employee Services at QA, attended.
The event, organised for the second year, offers a taste of QA’s Business Class hospitality and menu prepared by celebrity chefs.
It gives visitors an opportunity to experience dining on a platform restaurant with a spectacular bird’s- eye view of Doha.
Launched by QTA in 2010, the festival brings together people from different cultures to enjoy international cuisines, besides featuring entertainment and competitions.
