Qatar has stressed that the continuation of Israel’s occupation of Arab and Palestinian territories is a key factor for the state of instability in the region.
This came on Tuesday in Qatar’s speech delivered by Jassim al-Muawda, Third Secretary in Qatar’s Permanent Delegation to UN office in Geneva (UNOG), during the public debate under Chapter VII of the Human Rights Council, entitled “The human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories”, in the framework of the 28th session of the Human Rights Council.
Al-Muawda said that Israel is committing the most heinous violations of human rights against the Palestinian people, killing women, children and the elderly, without accountability of the international community, which puts the credibility of the international community, especially the Security Council at stake.
He stressed that Qatar, despite the crises that ail the Arab region, believes that the Palestinian issue is pivotal for the Arab and Muslim worlds.
“We also believe that the continuation of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian and Arab territories has been a key factor in the instability that has prevailed in the region since the beginning of the occupation”, he said.
He expressed deep concern over the postponement of the report of the UN Commission of Inquiry on Gaza war, which would expose the heinous Israeli practices in that war.  “The pressure exerted by Israel on the Commission confirms the intimidation policy carried out against the United Nations committees and various organs, and keeps the state of Israel above the law”, he added.
Al-Muawda  stressed that the recent Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, is only a failed attempt to break the Palestinian people’s will in resisting the occupation.
