Qatar University’s College of Arts and Sciences (QU-CAS) and the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) signed an agreement recently for co-operation in the academic and research fields.
The agreement aims to promote professional development of CAS biomedical and health sciences students and provide them with experience-based learning through internships and training activities at PHCC centres, and future employment opportunities after graduation.
The agreement was signed by QU president Prof Sheikha Abdulla al-Misnad and PHCC managing director Dr Mariam Ali Abdulmalik in the presence of QU vice president and chief academic officer Dr Mazen Hasna, CAS dean Dr Eiman Mustafawi and several other officials of Qatar University and PHCC.
Under the agreement, the two institutions will co-operate in education and research areas, and organise joint activities, seminars and workshops, as well as research projects, outreach programmes, and conferences.
Prof al-Misnad said: “This agreement will jointly benefit QU and PHCC in their respective roles as key partners in contributing to the National Health Strategy. It will also enrich the academic and research experience of our biomedical and health sciences students to build their capacity in those fields and prepare them for leadership roles within the healthcare sector.”
Dr Abdulmalik said: “As the economic growth of Qatar requires a meticulous focus on developing human resources in line with the needs of the labour market, this agreement which aims to develop knowledge, will support the mission of each institution through the collaboration in many areas such as academic research, training programmes, updating scientific curricula, maintaining a high-quality of education and services.”
Dr Mustafawi said: “This agreement will support QU’s vision to become a model national university in the region and promote a knowledge-based economy, in line with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. Our collaboration with PHCC will empower and engage our students during their academic experience by developing their capacities and preparing them to become professionals in their respective fields and role models for future generations.”
