Hamad International Airport (HIA) organised a blood donation drive in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior (MOI) and HMC.
A mobile blood donation unit provided by HMC was deployed at HIA for the community initiative along with a team of medical specialists. The drive, which began at 8am and continued throughout the day, saw a huge turnout of both airport and MoI staff, according to a statement.
Badr al-Meer, chief operating officer at HIA, said: “This campaign is the airport’s way of showing its support for the medical community and the society of Qatar. It is also an opportunity for the airport’s staff members to participate in community service, as participation in such initiatives makes an immensely positive contribution to our society. Efforts like this are also in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to contribute to social development in Qatar and ensure a healthy society for the future of the country.”
Abdulaziz al-Mass, vice-president (commercial) at HIA, said: “We are happy to be a part of this benevolent event, which gives us an opportunity to give back to the community and help save the lives of many.”
Sadiqa Ismail, medical manager at the Blood Donor Centre of HMC, said: “Blood drives help us spread awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation. Every drop of blood is an important contribution to saving one’s health in emergency situations.”
Brigadier Essa Arar al-Rumaihi, director of Airport Security Management, said the primary objective of the MoI is to use this event as a platform to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation, which helps increase blood reserves in the country and saves lives.
Colonel Mohamed Rashid al-Mazrouei, director of the Airport Immigration Department, said he was pleased with the turnout at the event and the wholehearted participation of HIA and its staff members.
