Katara - the Cultural Village Foundation is launching a heritage carnival and bazaar today at 4pm, in co-operation with Qatar Heritage and Identity Centre.
The festival, which will continue until the end of March, will be held in the southern area of Katara and remain open for the public daily from 10am to 10pm.
There will be a number of shows by different folklore troupes from Qatar and other countries such as Turkey, Jordan and Mexico. They will present various dances and songs that reflect the culture and heritage of their countries.
In addition, some other troupes from different countries will present acrobatics, circus and theatrical performances. There will be also popular competitions, children’s games and a play area, mascots and a folk café with traditional Qatari outlook open for visitors to the bazaar and carnival.
“Katara always welcomes all events and activities of interest to the public and show the national identity and heritage of Qatar. Further, Katara is keen to introduce the heritage and identity of other countries, as one of the most important targets of Katara is to bridge the gaps among different people by featuring their customs, traditions and cultural heritage,” said Darwish Ahmed al-Shaibani, director of the Marketing and International Affairs Department, Katara.
Representative of Qatar Heritage and Identity Centre Anass al-Anzi said besides the various activities that display Qatari heritage and identity, there will be a photo exhibition, where visitors will be introduced to the different stages of Qatar’s development.
Jaber al-Mansuri, CEO of Al Maraya Public Relations (an event management firm), said more than 400 companies from various countries around the ,including Egypt, Jordan, Mexico, Brazil, Serbia and all GCC countries, will take part in the festival.
The bazaar will feature handicrafts, traditional gifts and dishes and a variety of products for all tastes.
