A Doha Criminal Court has ordered a local contracting company to pay blood money to the families of four expatriate workers killed in a sanitary drainage work site, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.
The blood money was estimated to be QR200,000 for each person.
The court also sentenced three site supervisors of the company to six months in jail each for negligence.
The case was that the deceased workers were sent to clean a sanitary drainage pipe at another company. One of them entered the sewage pit and could not come out, following which the other workers went in to help him and eventually all suffocated to death.
The public prosecution charged the company with negligence for not taking precautionary safety and security measures at work sites and enforcing them.
Medical and forensic reports about the incident, coupled with the investigations of the competent entities, established the guilt of the company and the work supervisors, the daily added.
