A delegation from Swedish food security company Plantagon International has visited Doha, the Swedish embassy said in a statement.
The Stockholm-based Plantagon International is active in urban agriculture, and specialises in vertical farming and food security.
“The company has attracted interest from cities on all continents for the construction of the innovative Plantagon Greenhouse, a vertical industrial urban farm,” Swedish Ambassador Ewa Polano said.
The delegation comprising Plantagon International CEO Hans Hassle, senior adviser and former minister Mats Hellstr?m, and chief architect Dr Alessio Boco, visited the Al Sulaiteen Agricultural and Industrial Complex and had a meeting with chairman Abdullah Salem al-Sulaiteen and senior officials.
The also met with HE Ahmed Amer Mohamed al-Humaidi, the Minister of Environment, and officials from Qatar National Food Security Programme, Qatar National Research Fund, Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, Qatar Financial Centre and faculty members of Qatar
University.
Plantagon develops symbiotic industrial system, which will transform spillage, waste products and CO2 into commercial viable goods.
“A large scale food production building like the Plantagon Greenhouse would be a landmark not only for Swedish technology but also for FIFA 2022 as well, especially as the building would contribute to the goal of hosting the first carbon emission neutral football world championship in Qatar in 2022,” the ambassador added.
