Qatar University College of Law (QU-LAWC) has launched masters’ programmes in Public Law and Private Law.
The two programmes, which will be taught in Arabic, are the first of their kind in Qatar and were designed to prepare law students with specialist skills to contribute to the professional sectors within Qatar, consistent with the growing demands of the labour market.
They also aim to build an environment of high-quality legal research and scholarship that will advance the College’s position as the only law college in Qatar and enhance its competitiveness with peer-colleges with similar programmes in the region.
Entry requirements to the programmes include a bachelor’s law degree from Qatar University or equivalent from a recognised university; a résumé; motivation letter; academic recommendation letter; and a successful personal interview.
Students admitted to the programmes are required to complete 33 credit hours which include six specialised and in-depth subjects (18 credit hours), 3 elective courses (9 credit hours) and a thesis towards graduation (6 credit hours).
LAWC dean Dr Mohammed al-Khulaifi said, “The College of Law continues to deliver on its mission and vision to provide programmes on a wide-range of legal issues and questions to draw solutions for problems that face the Qatari society. In launching these new masters, the college is bringing to bear its expertise in legal education and its commitment to preparing the next generation of highly-qualified law professionals in Qatar.”
