Qatar has condemned the attack targeting a restaurant in Bamako, Mali on Friday night that killed five civilians, including members of the UN Mine Action Service in Mali and the European Union, and injuring many others.
The Foreign Ministry confirmed in a statement yesterday Qatar’s full solidarity with the Malian, French and Belgian governments, and its support for the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Mali and the UN mission to help the authorities and the people of Mali in their efforts aimed at achieving peace and stability. The statement also expressed sincere condolences to the families of the victims.
It also reiterates Qatar’s rejection of all forms of violence whatever its cause and motives.


PM leaves for Algeria

HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani yesterday left for Algeria to take part in the 32nd session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Interior.


Ties reviewed

HE the President of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah yesterday met British Ambassador Nicholas Hopton.
During the meeting, they discussed issues of common interest.

♦ HE the Minister of State for Defence Affairs Maj Gen Hamad bin Ali al-Attiyah met yesterday Italy’s Special Envoy for Libya Ambassador Giuseppe Buccino. Talks covered issues related to the current situation in Libya.
HE the Assistant Foreign Minister for International Co-operation Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani also met Grimaldi.

♦ The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Qatar Media Corp, HE Sheikh Abdurrahman bin Hamad al-Thani yesterday met Saudi Ambassador Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al-Aifan. Talks dealt with the media relations between the two countries.


Students visit NHRC

The Qatar National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) works independently and transparently at all levels, a senior official said yesterday. Speaking to students of Omar bin Abdul Aziz Independent Secondary School for Boys during their visit to the NHRC headquarters, Director of the Legal Affairs Department Jaber al-Hwail said the organisation works fairly and upholds human rights issues.
The NHRC receiving A Grade accreditation from the International Co-ordinating Committee of National Human Rights Institutions (ICC) reaffirms the organisations’ transparent and neutral work at local, regional and international levels, he said.
