A new 14km-long, 100m wide, nine-lane ‘Smart’ road from Al Wajbah roundabout through Qatar Foundation’s Education City, and reaching Doha Corniche is to be constructed by a Spanish company, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday. Citing a video
posted by the company on YouTube, the daily has said that the Khalifa Avenue, the first-of-its-kind in Qatar, will have tracks for all means of transport, which include  bicycles, pedestrians, camels and horses, buses as well as environment-friendly vehicles, besides ample areas for greenery. The overall area of the road, which will have Wi-Fi coverage, is set to be 937,000sqm, with 335,000sqm for green areas which would include around 4,500 trees. The bicycle track will cover 32kms, pedestrian track 33kms, and the camel and horse tracks will cover 17kms, the report added. This Arrayah picture shows an artist’s impression of the proposed road.
