Lt Col al-Hajri announcing the programme of the 31st GCC Traffic Week as other officials look on.

The General Directorate of Traffic will observe the 31st GCC Traffic Week, in association with organisations in other GCC countries, from March 8 to 14.
Lt Col Mohamed Radi al-Hajri, Director, Media and Awareness at Traffic Department, said the traffic week will be celebrated under the theme “Your decision determines your destiny,” with participation of GCC delegates.
Qatar delegates will participate in the events held in other GCC nations.
The activities include cultural and awareness programmes with a focus on students and youth. The annual event aims to raise traffic awareness among citizens and expatriates to ensure compliance with rules and protect people’s lives and properties, the official explained.
The activities in Darb al Saai will be opened by Brig. Mohamed Saad al-Kharji, director of General Directorate of Traffic, on Sunday. The activities will continue until March 14, from 8am to noon and 4pm to 10pm.
A variety of programmes such as puppet theatre, free art workshop, workshops on traffic signals, traffic injuries and driving tests are to be held. Activities will focus on youth because they are more vulnerable to traffic accidents.
Lectures will focus on ways to reduce traffic violations, the role of family in reducing accidents and common traffic mistakes.
The department will organise the activities in association with several school authorities, the Supreme Council of Health and community organisations to focus on topics concerning different segments of the society.
The traffic department had recently launched new traffic curriculum in some of the schools in the country.
