CNA-Q Paramedicine Students work with Hamad EMS and Civil Defence teams during Auto Safety event.

College of the North Atlantic Qatar (CNA-Q) teamed up with Q-Auto to present the annual CNA-Q Auto Safety event last week. The two-day event highlighted four main factors that contribute to fatalities on Qatar’s roads each day: seatbelts, speeding, texting while driving and the proper use of child seats and restraint systems.
“Traffic accidents are the number one cause of death in young people in Qatar,” said Dr Ken MacLeod. “As a college president that is what worries me. Each day I see the potential of our students, in the classroom, on stage at Global Village, in our annual skills competition. That this potential could be taken away because you don’t buckle your seatbelt, or wait to answer a phone call is what distresses me.”
Q-Auto, the official dealer of Audi in Qatar sponsored a defensive driving course, with the aim of educating students on how to tackle difficult on-road experiences. In addition to promoting vehicle safety, Q-Auto has also taken a strong stance on child safety and has emphasised on the importance of using car seats while driving.
In addition to Q-Auto, information booths were set up by Civil Defence, Hamad Medical Corporation, Mowasalat and the Qatar Traffic Department. The event was closed by a live accident scenario performed by CNA-Q Paramedicine Students, Hamad Emergency Medical Services and Civil Defence. The teams co-ordinated on a mock traffic accident which involved five participants and required emergency extraction from damaged vehicles as well as on-site medical care.
