Qatar Primary Materials Co (QPMC) has highlighted its vital role in country’s infrastructure development at the 18th Gulf Engineering Forum in Doha.
The listed company is supporting the construction requirements of the public and private sector by supplying building materials
in large quantities.
Speaking at the forum yesterday, QPMC director Navjot Singh said that at its present capacity the main QPMC plant is providing 1,000 tonnes of washed sand per hour and annual sales capacity of 6mn. “The company also has a strategic stock of 1mn tonnes and a supply capacity of sand dunes of 1,200 truckloads per day,” he added.
He stressed that the main objective of the company was to stabilise the prices of the primary infrastructure materials and establish quality standards for aggregates and sand in the long-term,
The company has four divisions - Port Management, Sahara washed sand, Nijian sand and logistics and
supply chain.
QPMC has operational locations, spread over its jetty stock yards in both Ras Laffan and Lusail, Mesaieed Port, Njian Sand (dune sand) and Sahara Sand Plant (for washed sands).
“QPMC aims to deliver the capability to design, develop and operate jetties at developers’ request for government projects. We also store a strategic stockpile of aggregates for the government in Mesaieed and delivering washed sand which will regulate the market for dune sand in Qatar,”
Singh added.
The company also plans to provide cement silos and discharge over 2mn tonnes of imported cement annually to meet the expected increased demand in the
local market.
Singh said QPMC also has plans to develop gabbro quarries outside the country as well as to provide the sea logistic supply chain. The company will deliver comprehensive solutions for the transport, storage and delivery of key primary materials in the country.
Singh expressed the hope that the forum would help tackle the common GCC issues concerning infrastructure and challenges facing the sector across the region.
