Children with disabilities should be given more support to be integrated within normal schools when possible, Qatar Chamber’s Education Committee has proposed.
In a recent meeting, committee members led by QC vice-chairman Mohamed Ahmed bin Tuwar stressed the need to exert more efforts to spread awareness among the local and expatriate communities on the issues related to such category of people. Besides, normal students should be instructed on how to deal properly with their disability to help them integrate at the school.
However, the committee saw that the school curriculum for students with disability should be modified to accommodate for their capabilities.
Unqualified school teachers should be given training on the best practices and methods to be adopted when dealing with such students.
The committee formed a specialised team to look into the possible ways of supporting the persons with disability where they will invite a representative from the Supreme Education Council to discuss the establishment of more education centres for children with special needs.
The committee will also organise a workshop with the participation of all stakeholders to devise a comprehensive strategy on how the private sector could help in supporting the persons with disability.
In the meantime, the legal team of the committee will hold a meeting next week to look into the difficulties and challenges facing Indian schools in the country, in particular the large numbers of students in a single school amount to 2,500-10,000 students, the constant hike of school fees and the unavailability of timely seats in some schools.
The committee stressed that the rising rental rates of school buildings is a key issue among such challenges and should be addressed decisively through protective legislations. A questionnaire will be sent to all committee members to determine difficulties to be address and the possible solutions.
Eventually, the committee members agreed to ask the private business community to adopt a project to establish a private company for the manufacture and supply of school furniture and equipments, and other education resources.
