Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has continued its health education and training efforts for Qatari society members of different ages and walks of life by participating in several health and sports events as well as conducting health education lectures and first aid training courses in different civil society organisations, with a total of 1,980 beneficiaries.
As part of the National Sport Day celebrations, QRC medical staff members were present during sports events held at the Diplomatic Club and Katara – the Cultural Village. They also took part in the “To Whom I May Concern” one-day exhibition held at Dukhan Recreation Club by the Dukhan, Al Kiranah and Al Kharsaa school association as well as the “My Health is the Source of My Wellbeing” one-day exhibition held by Al Bayan Educational Complex for Girls.
These events were attended by 1,350 visitors, students, teachers, administrative staff and parents.
In these events, QRC had a special corner to receive visitors, inform them about the organisation and its role in society, train groups of visitors in first aid, distribute diverse health education printouts, recruit volunteers for the upcoming Sixth Disaster Management Camp, give advise about diverse health and preventive topics, perform blood sugar and pressure tests for free, distribute QRC gifts to the public and network with representatives of the participating organisations to expand the community scope of joint work.
Under the QRC School Programme, QRC organised six lectures on healthy dieting, personal hygiene and first aid applications. The lectures were attended by 500 youths, students, teachers and parents at sports and social clubs, charitable organisations and independent schools such as Barzan Youth Centre, Al Sadd Sports Club, Qatar Charity (women’s branch), Roda bint Mohamed Independent Secondary School for Girls, Al Wafaa Model Independent School for Boys and Al Quds Model Independent School for Boys.
Lastly, QRC organised first aid courses for 130 beneficiaries at different companies and institutions in Qatar, including Sharq Village & Spa, W Doha Hotel, Doha Marriott Hotel, the Diplomatic Club, Jaidah Group, Ebn Sina Medical and Al Yarmouk Independent Preparatory School for Boys.
The trainees gained diverse experience and knowledge, including background information on QRC and basic training in first aid, surface water rescue and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR); how to deal with cases of suffocation, bleeding, injury, fracture, burn, epilepsy, poisoning and heat exhaustion; and techniques of moving injured people.
