Qatar is committed to supporting sustainable water sources, its conservation in consistent with the theme of Arab Water Day - Rationalising use of water to achieve sustainable development, HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada said yesterday.
Speaking on the eve of Arab Water Day which falls on March 3, every year, al-Sada said that Qatar attaches great importance to raise awareness of the importance of rationalising the use of water, especially since the per capita consumption of water is one of the highest in the world.
Qatar is working according to a clear policy as part of its strategy for the management of natural resources, which is considered a roadmap to achieve sustainability and preservation of rights, the minister said adding it is a shared responsibility requiring everyone to stop wasting water and follow the proper habits of its usage as a daily practice to ensure sustainable development.  
The minister explained that Qatar General Electricity & Water Corp (Kahramaa) works to consolidate a culture of water conservation through its national programme for conservation and energy efficiency “Tarsheed”, which it launched under the patronage of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
He noted that the policies and strategies of “Tarsheed” is to urge everyone to preserve resources to ensure achievement of the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030, where Kahramaa works through Tarsheed in co-operation with a number of organisations in the country and communicate with schools to reduce the per capita water and electricity consumption in Qatar by 35% and 20% by 2017.
He called on citizens and residents to co-operate in the rationalisation of consumption as a moral, national and religious responsibility in order to maintain the source of life and to ensure a decent livelihood.
