A Doha criminal court has sentenced in absentia three Arab expatriates to 10 years in jail and imposed a fine of QR200,000 on each for dealing in marijuana, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported.

Besides, the court has also ordered their deportation upon completion of the sentence. A fourth accused was sentenced to one year in jail and directed to pay a fine of QR10,000 for consuming hashish, the daily adds.

The Drugs Prevention Department in the Ministry of Interior had earlier received information from a secret source that some expatriate was consuming and dealing in hashish and marijuana in the Al Khor area.

An investigation was carried out to verify the information.

An undercover police agent then approached the targeted person, asking him for some drugs in exchange for a set sum of money. One of the accused was accordingly nabbed with small amounts of the contraband and this also led to the capture of his accomplices, according to the report.
