Qatar Museums yesterday announced the extension of one of its most popular collections, the Yousef Ahmad Exhibition “Story of Ingenuity”, which will now run until March 28 at QM’s Gallery in Katara – the Cultural Village.
As a pioneer of Qatar’s modern art movement, Yousef Ahmad’s artistic journey has spanned more than three decades. His work has been influenced by his surroundings and emotional ties with Qatar’s culture and traditions.
“Yousef Ahmad is one of Qatar’s most significant figures and the exhibition plays an important part in the development of our country’s artistic community,” said Hamad el-Eida, director of communications for QM.
The exhibition highlights the Qatari artist’s body of work through a precise selection of his most striking artworks from his early works in 1970s through to the present day. It also showcases three phases in Yousef Ahmad’s artistic career: from the early oil paintings that include the historic depiction of Al Zubarah Fort, to his mixed media calligraphic pieces, to his new conceptual artworks presenting his ability in developing an innovative artistic style.
“Story of Ingenuity” has been visited by thousands of people to date and we are delighted that even more people will have the opportunity to see the magnificent artworks that have been exhibited around the world and continue to enrich the lives of all those who live in and visit Qatar,” el-Eida noted.
