A major clean-up activity is scheduled to take place on February 26 on a 3km stretch of Al Wakrah beach, from 9am to 11.30am, as part of the third edition of the Waste Free Environment (WFE) regional campaign initiated by the Gulf Petrochemical and Chemicals Association (GPCA).
Qatar Petrochemical Company, a founding member of GPCA, is once again the local liaison of the WFE campaign in Qatar.
The pan-GCC campaign is designed to raise awareness among the public on the need to preserve the environment and reduce the irresponsible disposal of waste. It also aims to tackle the challenges associated with plastic litter.
On February 26, various clean-up events will take place across 18 locations in 13 cities around the GCC as well as in Europe and India.
A large number of Qatari entities have pledged their support to the initiative.
These include Qatar Petroleum, Al Wakrah Municipality, various ministries, government agencies and organisations, educational institutions, corporates and Mesaieed Industrial City downstream entities.
The general public is invited to join the WFE campaign and sustainability workshops, waste management lectures and green competitions will be organised on site as well as in universities, colleges and schools in Qatar.
