Marsa Malaz Kempinski, The Pearl – Doha, has announced a collaboration with Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar (VCUQatar), offering local fashion design students the opportunity to secure a six-month internship at Qatar’s new ultra-luxury resort by creating a bespoke wardrobe collection for the Lady in Red.
Kempinski’s iconic Lady in Red is a unique concept synonymous with the five-star hotel’s trademark of personalised luxury. Described as the First Lady of the hotel, the Lady in Red complements the prestigious concierge role and is easily recognisable with her elegant persona and signature red clothing.
The Lady in Red ensures that guests feel welcomed, comfortable and cared for, with no task or request too much to fulfil. She is the Ambassadrice par excellence of Kempinski, according to a statement.
Marsa Malaz Kempinski’s collaboration with Qatar’s leading art and design school is part of the vibrant learning experiences at VCUQatar, helping build and maintain indispensable connections for both partners in the local community, the statement adds.
Eight local students in the Senior Fashion Class will compete to design the Lady in Red custom-made collection, with the winner not only to be rewarded with their designs being fashioned into a bespoke wardrobe, but also an internship at Marsa Malaz Kempinski. This will offer the budding designer an exclusive look at Doha’s new ultra-luxury destination while learning valuable insights into the premium travel, food, fashion and hospitality industries, the statement points out.
Wissam Suleiman, general manager at Marsa Malaz Kempinski, The Pearl – Doha, said: “This unique opportunity is a project we feel very passionately about as we look to nurture homegrown designers and artisans. We are honoured to be working with such inspiring talents at VCUQatar.”
“We are delighted when opportunities like these come along as they offer the students the chance to implement their design skills at the highest level, working with a world-renowned brand,” said Sandra Wilkins, chair of the fashion department at VCUQatar.
