The Tarsheed 22 (T 22) campaign, announced yesterday jointly by the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) and Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), will be rolled out in three phases.
The educational awareness project, being launched initially in 22 independent schools involving close to 1,500 children, will make full use of the passion that Qatar’s young generation has for football to enhance children’s awareness on energy conservation.
To begin with, an initial energy audit and upgrade are to be carried out at each of the participating schools. It will be followed by a presentation of training equipment on sustainability for students, teachers and sport activities. The last phase involves energy monitoring and reporting.
In June, a special award will be presented to the most energy efficient schools.
Asked why only 22 schools have been selected for implementing the programme, Kahramaa president Essa bin Hilal al-Kuwari said more independent and other schools would be added to the list in the coming months so that the message would reach more students in the country. SC secretary general Hassan al-Thawadi was present on the occasion.
Besides education materials and sports activities which are included in the first two phases of the campaign, Kahramaa and SC would use mobile applications and website also to reach more children in the coming months.
While education materials are prepared by experts and teachers in collaboration with the Supreme Education Council, football matches and visits of sports stars will be made use of to reinforce the importance of energy to one’s life.
The proposed website contains fun activities and quiz contests that students can take to learn about conservation.
