Qatar Charity (QC) has announced the allocation of approximately QR22mn for the benefit of Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
QC CEO Yusuf Ahmed al-Kuwari made the announcement during the opening session of the Third Conference for the Study of Syrian Refugees’ Situation in Lebanon, which concluded in Istanbul on Saturday.
The conference was organised by the Federation of Relief and Development Organisations in Lebanon and sponsored by QC, in co-operation with the Turkish IHH Association.
Nearly 200 delegates, representing more than 60 Arab and international organisations, including Organisation of Islamic Co-operation, the United Nations Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and Oxfam, participated.
The participants represented several countries and they included Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Qatar, Britain, France, Australia, Brazil, Sudan, Turkey, Oman, Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen and Libya.
Al-Kuwari explained that QC would donate $4mn (around QR15mn) in support of the projects of the Federation of Relief and Development Organisations in Lebanon, with a further $2mn (over QR7mn) to promote the principle of partnership and co-operation with any organisation willing to work in co-operation with QC.
In his opening speech, al-Kuwari said that QC renewed its absolute commitment to continuing to provide humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people, in line with OCHA naming them the first non-governmental organisation in terms of the volume of aid to the Syrian people during the years 2012, 2013 and 2014, and with a total expenditure of QR200mn spent on shelter, health, food, water, sanitation, education and other projects for the refugees.
“QC will make even more efforts in the future, in order to respond to the most urgent humanitarian needs of the Syrians in co-operation with partners. He also expressed his pride in the partnership with IHH and Federation of Relief and Development Organisations in Lebanon, and its sponsoring of the conference for the third time in a row.
Secretary general of the Federation of Relief and Development Organisations in Lebanon, Sheikh Ahmed al-Omari thanked QC, the official sponsors of the conference, for their extensive efforts for the benefit of the Syrian people, particularly refugees.
QC sponsored the second conference for Syrian refugees a year ago, which saw the allocation of around QR14mn, for the benefit of projects for refugees; specifically for the construction of schools, support for health centres, medical complexes and the establishment of a centre for psychological support.
