HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Thani has  stressed the importance of boosting the private sector in accordance with the country’s strategic plan to diversify the economy.
Addressing an event attended by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani yesterday at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce to review its achievements in 2014 and the future plans, the minister highlighted the role of the private sector as an important component of development.  
He said that the ministry had registered an overwhelming success in all sectors during 2014. The minister highlighted the co-operation between different state authorities to complete Al Farjan markets project.
He stressed that the swift completion of the project is something the ministry is looking to keep up with future projects.  
The minister said that the ministry had helped attract foreign investments by hosting of a number of forums.
He said that the ministry has been working on raising its strategic reserves in food by diversifying the country’s food resources.
The ministry has also undertaken a number of initiatives in the field of food supply, he added.    
Addressing the employees, the minister said that a creative employee is central to the government’s economic plans. Earlier yesterday the ministry honoured 125 employees for their efforts in 2014.
The ministry will hold a similar event annually to review the previous year’s successes and future plans.
