Various ministries and public and private organisations in the country participated in the National Sport Day (NSD) on Tuesday with various activities to engage their employees and families.
The Ministry of Transport (MoT) marked the day at Al Khor Airport with the participation of more than 400 senior officials and staff of various related entities including the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail), Qatar Aeronautics College, Mowasalat Company (Karawa), and Qatar Ports Management Company.
“The National Sport Day is a sort of investment in the human capital. Our participation in it reflects our belief that a healthy man is key to any advancement and productivity,” said HE the Minister of Transport Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti.
The General Authority of Customs (GAC) marked the day with the employees of various departments taking part in various activities at Al Arabi Sports Club. The day started with a basic medical checkup for all the participants.
“The regular practice of sports would certainly reflect on all the daily activities of man and would ultimately improve his performance in work and other aspects of life,” GAC Chairman Ahmed bin Ali al-Muhannadi said.
Over 100 employees of different departments of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) participated in the NSD programme, featuring a number of group competitions and matches.
HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Thani said the idea behind the NSD was highly innovative. It aims at building a strong and healthy society which can maintain comprehensive development.
The staff and senior officials of the Council of Ministers General Secretaries marked NSD with a number of physical and social activities to promote sports as a way of life.
Qatar Chamber (QC) marked the day with various activities such as walkathon, cycling, basketball, table tennis and other games with the participation of all its employees and their families. Besides, health awareness lectures were given to instruct them on the importance of daily sports activities to maintain a better life in all respects.
“It is a good opportunity for people to get together and engage in some common physical and social activities that will enhance both their good mutual relationships and physical health. The National Sport Day is a very good opportunity to enhance good relations and promote healthy practices, which would certainly reflect positively on the overall business climate of the country,” said QC general manger Remi Ruhani.
The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has already launched a number of initiatives and programmes aiming at encouraging people to practice more physical activities and adopt healthier patterns of life, as part of the National Work Plan for Nutrition and Physical Activities. The plan includes a number of initiatives implemented in co-operation with various entities in the country such as the Supreme Education Council and a number of other organisations.  
“Qatar has managed to make great achievements in sports and the organisation of global sports events. As we mark the National Sport Day for the fourth consecutive year, we thank HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani for such a historic move that made Qatar a pioneer in the field worldwide,” said the chairman of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) Saud al-Hinzab, echoing the views of all CMC members and staff, who participated in an active programme to mark the day.
