Qatar Fertiliser Co (Qafco) celebrated National Sport Day yesterday with several activities.
The celebrations started at the premises of the company club, Al-Banush, which were categorised as team games, football and volleyball, track and field events, shot-put, discuss throw, 50mts race, 100m race, 2,000m race and children games such as lemon and spoon and shoot the basket.
At the end of the events, participants were honoured with special gift items and awards.
Khalifa A al-Sowaidi, chief executive officer, Qafco, said: “Sport binds people and communities. We, as part of our responsibility towards the society, organise a number of sporting events that aim to develop a sporting attitude. At Qafco we have promoted sports. Apart from the intra-company events, our Qafco open tennis championship is one of the most famous and oldest open tournaments in the country.”
Dr Hamed al-Marwani, chief administration officer, Qafco, said: “National Sport Day is a means to promote sport not only among our employees but also among their families. A healthy family is a happy employee.”
Ibrahim al-Jaidah, public relations manager, Qafco, said: “In line with the government vision to promote the role of sports as an integral part of lifestyle, we have organised a sport programme that includes a number of integrated sport activities.”
