The Capital Security Police have arrested an Arab couple for using their residential apartment to run a nursery in the Al Sadd area. The school also had no licence or approval from the departments concerned.
Investigations were launched by the police after an Arab national lodged a complaint in the Al Sadd police station under the Capital Security Department that his four-year old child was beaten up by the nursery school teacher. The parent urged the police to advise the nursery "not to be aggressive" towards children.
Following inquiries it was found that the Arab national and his wife were using the apartment in Al Sadd where they were living with their children as a creche. It was also found that the school had no licence or the required approvals of the departments concerned.
The man told the police that his wife had placed advertisements in local newspapers about the seats available in the school and promised to accept children for a monthly fee of QR 500 per child. They had "admitted" a number of children to the nursery.
After it was revealed that they had broken Law No.1 /2014 that regulates such centres in the country, they were referred to the prosecution for legal action, a statement issued by the Public Relations Department at the Ministry of Interior said.
The ministry has urged parents to admit their children only to licensed nurseries "for the sake of the safety of the children and to provide them with appropriate conditions for the development of their skills".
The Interior Ministry has also asked residents to report to the security department if they find violation of the nursery law.
Following the Villaggio tragedy that claimed 19 lives, including 13 children, in May 2012, Qatar authorities have tightened the rules for operating schools and creches in the country.
