The first phase of the country’s solar energy project aimed at generating 200MW is expected to be tendered shortly, local daily Al Sharq has reported.
Solar energy is being generated in the country in line with the goals and objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030, which gives lot of emphasis on sustainable
development.
The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has reviewed its strategy and set up its roadmap for the QNV 2030, the daily said. The most important initiative is to turn to the smart networks through solar energy.
With the generation of 200MW of solar power in the first phase, Qatar will make its leap towards generating 10,000MW of power in the country.
The locations for generating solar energy in the initial phase will be decided in coming days even though some of them have already been
selected in Al Duhail area.
Currently the country’s power plants have a combined installed capacity of more than 8,000MW annually.
The new solar projects are expected to generate investment opportunities for the private sector in the fields of manufacturing, installation and
contracting.
