The Dau event continues today at the 6th Qatar International Falcons and Hunting Festival at Sabkhet Marmi near Sealine, Mesaieed.
Apart from the round rescheduled from Monday, the non-competitive Hudud Al Habari and Hudud Al Saluki events and shooting performances will be held today.
The first of a series of non-competitive Hudud Al Habari rounds were held yesterday on the sidelines of the festival to entertain attendees.
The Habari (houbara bustard) has traditionally been linked with the heritage sport of falconry.
The event is open to all falconers, according to Mubarak al-Subaii, a member of the Mazayen and Young Falconer organising committees.
The Dau event serves to showcase the falconer’s skill at training his falcon for speed.
A falcon is required to cross in the shortest time a distance of 400m towards its owner, who is signalling to the bird from the finish line.
The Hudud Al Habari rounds feature falcons seeking to catch Habari birds, which are known for their speed.
The Huhud Al Saluki rounds are races in which salukis, or Arabian greyhounds, try to cover a given distance in the shortest time.
The sixth edition of the Qatar Falcons and Hunting Festival, being organised by the Gannas Society under the patronage of HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, runs until January 31.
