Ali Nassir al-Hajiri, chief of General Control Department, Doha Municipality revealed that the municipality inspectors recorded 9,000 violations in 2014, reports, local Arabic daily, Arrayah. Most of these violations are related to street vendors, bill boards and general cleanness.
Al-Hajiri said at a media briefing that in 2013, the municipality had located 20,000 neglected vehicles but the same was reduced to 8,500 in 2014  as a result of stiff penalty and awareness campaigns. The General Control Department is the authority dealing with violations such as throwing waste from vehicles and street vendors.
With co-operation from the Ministry of Environment, the inspectors of the both the ministries have executed a campaign against the general cleaning violations in the Industrial Area and 17 violations were recorded during the campaign.

Criminal Court verdict upheld in burglary, stabbing case

The Court of Appeals has upheld a Criminal Court verdict sentencing a Sudanese expatriate man to a 10-year jail term followed by deportation for burgling a house and stabbing an Iraqi lady with a knife, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday.
The court stated that the police and prosecution investigations cited the confession of the accused, who claimed he committed the crime to pay the cost of a heart surgery for his mother.

Two get life term for trading in hashish
The Criminal Court sentenced two Iranians to life imprisonment for trading in hashish, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.
The convicts, who attempted to smuggle 40kg of the narcotic substance on a boat, was chased and nabbed by Qatar coastguard. The judgment was issued by five judges who were presided by judge Mustapha al-Badaweehi.
In another lawsuit, the Criminal Court jailed four Asians for 10 years each for stealing QR1,500,000 from an iron safe in a prominent automotive showroom.
The convicts were assistance of a person working in the showroom, the daily added.

Justice Minister meets Algerian counterpart
HE the Minister of Justice Dr Hassan Lahdan Saqr al-Mohannadi yesterday met Algerian Minister of Justice Tayeb Louh and his accompanying delegation who are currently on a visit to Doha.
The two sides discussed the legal and judicial co-operation between Qatar and Algeria, ways of strengthening and developing them in various areas of justice and issues of common concern.
Algerian justice minister extended an invitation to his Qatari counterpart to visit Algeria.
Algerian Ambassador to Doha Abdelfattah Ziani attended the meeting along with a number of senior officials at the Ministry of Justice.

Minister invited to UAE summit
HE the Minister of Administrative Development Dr Issa Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi received a written message from UAE Minister of Education Hussain Ibrahim al-Hammadi who also serves as chairman of the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources.
The message included an invitation for Dr al-Nuaimi to attend the third session of the government summit under the theme “Pioneering in government services”.
UAE Ambassador to Qatar Saleh bin Mohamed al-Amri handed the message to HE Dr Nuaimi when they met yesterday at the Ministry of Administrative Development.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations of mutual concern between the two fraternal countries.

NHRC chief meets ambassador
Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Dr Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri yesterday met the Ambassador of Netherlands to Qatar Yvette van Eechoud in Doha yesterday.  
Discussions during the meeting focused on matters of mutual interest and the exchange of experience and expertise on human rights.

Real estate transactions
The total value of trading in real estate sales contracts registered with the real estate registration department at the Ministry of Justice from December 28 to January 1 amounted to QR 1,415,488,143.
According to the weekly bulletin issued by the department, the list of properties that were traded by sale includes open plots of land, two-floor villas, annexes, houses and residential buildings.


Plans to develop Central Market
The Doha municipality has received a number of proposals for the development of the Doha Central Market, said Ali Nassir Al-Hajiri, the chief of the general control section at the Doha Municipality, Arrayah daily has reported.
As per the proposals received at the municipality, the market needs to be developed in co-operation between the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning, Ashghal and the Ministry of Economy and Commerce.
While there are some proposals to retain the market in its existing location, suggestions have also come for its relocation to some other area, said al-Hajiri.
Meanwhile the official said the inspectors of the general control section are working hard to ensure that no rule violations are taking place in the Central Market.
Al-Hajiri also said there is good co-operation from the health control section and the consumer protection department for the smooth operations of the market.
