Qatar Charity (QC) has received a donation from the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (Kotra) for the benefit of kidney patients at Hamad Hospital.

The donation, which is part of Kotra’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, was presented by South Korean ambassador Chung Keejong to QC Department of International Development executive director Mohamed bin Ali al-Ghamdi.

Also present during the awarding ceremony at the QC headquarters were LuLu Hypermarkets director Mohamed Rashid al-Hashemi, regional manager P M Shanavas and Kotra director Kwang-Il Lee.

The partnership between QC and Kotra comes within the framework of the Korean Food Festival, organised by the embassy’s commercial section, in co-operation with LuLu Hypermarket.

A portion of the proceeds from the food festival was directed to charity work with QC as the implementing partner. The chosen beneficiaries were kidney patients, particularly those who require regular dialysis.

Al-Ghamdi thanked the embassy and LuLu Hypermarket for their “noble humanitarian efforts”.

“QC strives to form partnerships that contribute to society, particularly the most needy. The social responsibility of institutions and companies make them key partners for humanitarian and charitable organisations,” he added.

On his part, Keejong said: “We are happy and satisfied with the results of the Korean Food Festival and its popularity with the Korean community in Qatar. This donation directed to kidney patients underlines the commitment of all stakeholders in pursuing noble causes for bringing more value to our objectives.”

“LuLu and Qatar Charity have been working together in the service of the community for a long time and we are pleased to contribute to this particular humanitarian cause,” Shanavas said.

QC has also signed a co-operation agreement with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) through HMC’s Qatar Centre for Organ Transplantation for organ donation.

The agreement seeks to honour organ donors and their families as well as provide social care to the family after the donor’s death, in light of the deceased’s “significant contribution.”

The agreement also supports Qatar Centre for Organ Transplantation to help it meet necessary expenditures of organ donation and allows the centre to use QC offices and partner offices within and outside the state.
