The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has shut down a well-known car showroom in Doha for a month for commercial fraud.

The dealer was found selling cars involved in accidents as brand-new ones after repairing them, according to a release issued by the ministry yesterday.

Inspectors from the MEC conducted a surprise check at the showroom on receiving complaints from consumers that the distributor was selling vehicles involved in accidents as new ones after repairing and repainting them.

The dealer did not inform clients that the cars had undergone repairs and passed them off as new, the release added.

MEC inspectors monitored the showroom for some time before conducting the surprise visit. Accordingly, the showroom has been closed for a month and issued a commercial violation.

Further, the decision will be posted on the MEC website and notified in local dailies at the expense of the violating company.

A few weeks ago, the MEC had closed down two famous car showrooms for a month in Doha on similar grounds.
