Agricultural engineers and private farm owners are being trained on the preparation and manufacture of compost locally.
The training, which concludes today, has been organised by the Ministry of Environment (MoE) in collaboration with the Arab Organisation for Agricultural
Development (AOAD).
Dr Mohamed Abdulhalim Ali Hassan, professor of agricultural microbiology at Cairo University and an expert at AOAD, is giving lectures at the training.
The training course was inaugurated by Yusuf al-Khulaifi, director of the MoE’s agricultural affairs department. He welcomed the participants and praised the cooperation between the ministry
and AOAD.
The course aims to introduce different segments of people associated with agricultural work to the importance of organic farming in producing crops. This would eventually reflect positively on improving the quality of local agricultural produce and conserving the environment and fertility of the soil.
Besides, the course includes lectures on how to move from traditional agricultural to organic methods with a special focus on the manufacture of organic compost from field refuse and animal waste.
In addition, the participants are being briefed on how to avoid chemical fertilisers in favour of organic and environment-friendly methods.
