Qatar’s missions abroad held special events to celebrate the country’s National Day yesterday.
In Abu Dhabi, Qatar’s Ambassador to the UAE Faris bin Roumi al-Nuaimi held a reception which was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan, who said in a statement that the UAE shares with brotherly Qatar the joy of celebrating National Day and wishes the government and people of Qatar further progress and prosperity.
Sheikh Mansour conveyed the greetings of the UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan to the government and people of Qatar coupled with his wishes of prosperity, peace and stability.
“The UAE and Qatar enjoy strong relations of fraternity and co-operation and links between the two peoples are deep-rooted and will remain so, thanks to the common culture, belief and destiny,” he added.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the Ambassador said the celebration of the National Day is an opportunity to renew the determination to exert every effort to advance Qatar and support the progress of its comprehensive development, led by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, “especially in light of the tremendous achievements made so far that have contributed to the development of our country”.
“It also represents an annual occasion to remember the foundation of modern Qatar, which has been growing and has become a beacon of civilization and a role model in all walks of life,” he said, adding that human development topped the priorities of Qatar’s policies and development plans.
He praised Qatar’s strong ties with the UAE, thanks to the support by the two countries’ leaderships.
The event was attended by Minister of State for Financial Affairs Obaid bin Humaid al-Tayer, Minister of Justice Sultan bin Saeed al-Badi, Minister of State Dr Sultan bin Ahmed Sultan al-Jaber, Deputy Minister for Presidential Affairs Ahmed Juma al-Za’abi, Secretary General for the Federal Supreme Council Affairs at the Ministry of Presidential Affairs Hamad Abdul Rahman al-Midfa, and heads of Aarb and foreign diplomatic corps.
A documentary showcasing the comprehensive development in the State of Qatar was screened on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Qatar's Consul General in Dubai Ahmed bin Ali Abdulrahman Altamimi held a reception to mark Qatar's National Day.
The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohamed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the president of Mohamed bin Rashid al-Maktoum Foundation Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohamed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Media Incorporated Sheikh Hashr bin Mohamed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the UAE Minister of Environment and Water Rashid Ahmad bin Fahd, Chairman of Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abdulrahman al-Ghurair and the head of Dubai Protocol Department Khalifa Saeed Suleiman in addition to a number of officials, eminent personalities, and members of diplomatic consular corps in Dubai.
In Muscat, Qatar's embassy in Oman held a reception ceremony at the Grand Hyatt Muscat hotel.
A number of Omani royal family members attended the ceremony along with ministers, State Council and Shura Council members, senior armed and police officers, foreign ministry officials, heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Oman, and several businessmen.
The Omani TV aired a report on Qatar after every news bulletin, covering the different sides of development in Qatar, its activity on the political and economic fronts, and its status in the regional and international arenas.
In Sudanese capital Khartoum, Qatar's embassy hosted a reception.
In his speech on this occasion , Qatar's Ambassador to Sudan Rashid bin Abdurrahman al-Nuaimi said that the Qatari-Sudanese relations are witnessing continuous development under the leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and the Sudanese President Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir.
He said that Qatar's efforts for achieving peace in Sudan did not stop after the signing of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) but are continuing to achieve stability and development in the region. He added that next year will witness opening of other projects in north and east of Darfur states.
For his part, the representative of the Sudanese President and Minister of Minerals Ahmed Mohamed Sadiq al-Bashir Alkaruri affirmed the keenness of the Sudanese president to develop relations with the State of Qatar .
In Egyptian capital Cairo Qatar’s Ambassador and its Permanent Delegate to the Arab League Saif bin Muqaddam al-Buainain hosted a reception which was attended by Assistant to the Defence Minister for Relations Major General Mohamed A Elkeshky, Assistant to the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces., Major General Medhat el-Nahas, Deputy Secretary-General of the Arab League Ambassador Ahmed Ben Helli and Ambassador Mohamed Sabih, Assistant Secretary General for the affairs of the Occupied Palestinian and Arab Territories and a number of Arab League officials.
The ceremony was also attended by a large number of members of the Arab and foreign diplomatic corps in Cairo and a group of political, diplomatic, and media personalities.
During the ceremony, some artistic and folkloric presentations that reflect Qatar’s heritage and history were displayed.
Qatar’s Ambassador to the Republic of Croatia Sheikha Moza bint Nasser al-Thani hosted a reception on the occasion of Qatar’s National Day.
The ceremony was attended by president of the Croatian Parliament Josip Leko, Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ranko Ostojic, Deputy Speaker Nenad Stazic, Deputy Foreign Minister Josko Klisovic, Deputy Economy Minister for Energy Affairs Sabina Skrtic, and Vice-President of the Croatian democratic union opposition party Ivan Domagoj Milosevic.
The ceremony was also attended by Croatian economic, intellectual, scientific and political figures as well as members of the Arab and foreign diplomatic corps accredited to Croatia and the sons of the Arab and Muslim communities in Zagreb.
The celebration included presentation on Qatar’s heritage and miniature models of Qatari ships.
In Ottawa, Qatar’s Ambassador to Canada Fahad Yousuf Kafoud held a reception to celebrate Qatar’s National Day.
The ceremony was attended by a number of ministers, senior officials and members of the Senate and the House of Commons in Canada, in addition to members of the diplomatic corps in Ottawa.
On the sidelines of the ceremony, the ambassador handed awards to the winners of children’s drawing contest ‘Qatar 2014’, which was held on the occasion of the National Day and saw the participation of 30 pupils from a number of Canadian schools.
The contest focused on Qatari-Canadian ties and the students expressed through their drawings the depth of the relations between the two countries.
Similar events were held in the country’s missions in El Salvador, Brunei Darussalam, Spain, Panama, Uruguay, Turkey and South Korea to mark the National Day.
