The State of Qatar has joined the Central American Integration System (SICA) as an observer member from outside the region, during the preparatory convention for the SICA foreign ministers which kicked of in the Belizean town of Placencia on Tuesday.

Qatar’s Ambassador to El Salvador Abdurrahman Mohamed al-Dosari and the Secretary-General of SICA Dr Victoria Marina Velasquez de Aviles signed the accession treaty, in the presence of all the ministers of the Organisation of Central American States.

Belize’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Wilfred Elrington also signed the treaty as a witness.

The SICA Secretary-General welcomed Qatar’s accession to the organisation and confirmed that this event is a key moment in the history of the organisation because of its positive impact in strengthening and consolidating the bonds of friendship and co-operation between Qatar and the organisation’s member-states.

For his part, the Qatari ambassador expressed Qatar’s pleasure to join the SICA as the first observer member from the GCC countries.

He said that the nomination of Qatar reflects the keenness of HH the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to promote friendly relations with all countries and international organisations out of Qatar’s respect for cultural diversity and the values of peace, freedom, development and international co-operation.
