Pakistani and Bangladeshi artistes will stage performances at Wakrah Sports Club tomorrow as part of the Qatar National Day celebrations.

As informed earlier, the programmes themed “One Love” denote the bond between Qataris and expatriates, where all stand together for the celebrations.

Both the Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities are also bringing in a few artistes from their home countries. Besides cultural shows, songs and comedy shows are also planned to entertain the spectators.

Students from Pakistan Education Centre, Bangladesh MHM School, Bhavan’s Public School, Shantiniketan and TNG School will also stage a parade, perform songs and take part in thematic shows. Football, tug of war and races are also on schedule for the community teams, companies and school teams.

The proceedings will start at 8am with the singing of the national anthem by students, to be followed by their parade.

The Pakistani community will stage comedy skits by Masood Khwaja and Dildar Khan, songs in various languages, such as English (We Love Qatar), Urdu and Pashto (by Usman Bangash), Sindhi folk song, Pakistani folk dance, an Arabic sword dance and more.

The Bangladeshi community programmes include English, Arabic and Bangla songs by Tanjina, modern song by Ahmed Sharif, sword dance, orchestra songs, folk song by Farooq, patriotic Bangla songs and thematic drama in English.

After a break, the programmes will start again at 3pm.

The participating schools will compete in a general show followed by general songs, a Qatar song and Qatar show.

Pakistani singers and artistes such as Allan Faqir Jr, Masood and Dildar, Usman, Shahsawar Khan, Akhtar Chanal Zahri and Malkoo will perform in the afternoon session.

The Bangladeshi community will showcase performances like a patriotic song in the Chittagong local dialect, a fashion show based on Qatar, one-act play, Bangla jokes, Bangla patriotic song in the Sylhet local dialect, comedy show by Babar and folk song by Farooq.

Wakrah Sports Stadium will witness football matches between community teams starting from 9am. A few races and a tug-of-war competition are also on the cards. The schools finishing first, second, third and fourth in the cultural festival will be awarded QR7,000, QR5,000, QR3,000 and QR2,000, respectively.

The winner of the football match will be awarded QR5,000 and the runners-up QR3,000. The winner of the tug-of-war competition will get QR2,500 and runners-up QR1,500. The prize money for the race is QR1,500 and QR1,000.

Free medical check-up will also be provided at the venue.
