Qatar University (QU) celebrated Qatar National Day with a series of events from December 9-16.

The  celebrations culminated with two events on the male and female campuses. They featured booths highlighting Qatari traditions, including various traditional activities such as Maklat, crafts, Haloul coffee shop and Freij, as well as a photo exhibition, Qatari food, and competitions.

On the male campus, live performances included poetry recitations and hymns, as well as an Hawazi heritage competition. The event on the female campus was organised by the Female Students Committee for National Day and featured a live operetta under the heading Bint Al Adaam. 

Each college organised an event, featuring traditional tents, actors dressed in costumes from the past, as well as traditional food and activities such as henna drawings, handcrafts corners, and shows and songs celebrating the occasion.

Events on College of Engineering (CENG) male and female campuses and Qatari Cultural Day at College of Pharmacy (CPH) were held on December 10; College of Business and Economics (CBE) male and female events were from December 9-11; while College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and College of Sharia and Islamic Studies (CSIS) held their cultural events on December 14.

College of Education (CED) held three events on December 16, one traditional tent organised by its Early Childhood Centre (ECC) hosted students from Juwan Bin Jassim Independent School. The ECC event hosted QU president Prof Sheikha Abdulla al-Misnad, LNG Japan president and CEO Yasunori Takagi and general manager  Katsuharu Tsuda and RasGas general counsel and corporate secretary Dr Marwan al-Musleh.

At the College of Law’s (LAWC) traditional tent, Prof al-Misnad and LAWC dean Dr Mohamed al-Khulaifi were joined by the Qatar Attorney General Dr Ali bin Fetais al-Marri. LAWC female students visited many independent schools, and gave a presentation on the law relating to respecting the flag and its importance to Qatar and its people.

Prof al-Misnad said: “On December 18, we celebrate our shared identity and the history which shaped it, and contemplate the values and ambitions that bring this country together -- a nation small in size, but great and noble in deeds and ambitions. Qatar’s National Day also presents an opportunity to express our gratitude and reverence to our ancestors who have endured many hardships to make Qatar what it is today.”
