Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), hosted a number of activities at the HBKU Student Centre recently in celebration of Qatar National Day.

Among the highlights of the celebrations was “Conversations and Karak: Qatari youth on shaping the future of Qatar” - a dynamic discussion among a panel of inspirational young Qataris in front of a live audience.

The event featured five Qataris – Aisha K al-Naama, Maha al-Ansari, Mohamed D Fakhro, Ahmed al-Qahtani and Khalifa al-Haroon – who shared their interests and aspirations. The panelists focused on a subject that was close to their hearts as they discussed arts, sports, medicine, community development and entrepreneurship, before taking questions from the audience.

The event was moderated by Jassim al-Muftah and Banafsheh Azizi from HBKU. Al-Muftah, assistant director of the Student Centre, said: “I greatly enjoyed hearing from current students, alumni and other young people about their visions of shaping Qatar’s future. As a young nation, we continue to develop and strive to achieve, grateful both for our history and heritage. Now, as in the past, the young are critical contributors to the world; we
will come to confront tomorrow.”

Al-Ansari noted, “Meeting and learning from the four other speakers was, without doubt, enriching. Each peer has a unique story and the kind of ambitions that go beyond the individual, and will likely contribute to the future of Qatar.”

HBKU’s Qatar National Day celebrations also featured traditional Qatari performances, film screenings and the sampling of local food and drinks.
