The Director-General of Traffic has stressed that the imposition of more stringent legislation for overtaking from the right or parking of vehicles in slots reserved for people with special needs have helped realise the objectives and contributed to a change in behaviour among motorists, local Arabic daily Al Sharq has
reported.

Brigadier Mohamed Saad al-Kharji said following the decision to strictly implement the law, some 90 vehicles were being taken to the seizure yard on daily basis initially. Now, the number of such vehicles has come down significantly, he added, according to the report.

Speaking at the Darb Al Saai grounds, Brig al-Kharji referred to traffic problems caused by trucks on Doha’s streets and said a circular would instruct contracting companies to direct their truck drivers to use the newly-opened Temporary Truck Route (Salwa-Lusail), the daily further states.

He, however, said it was not always possible to prevent truck movement within Doha as they transported food and building materials for different projects, the report adds.
