Commercial Bank has held a staff event for Qatari national employees as part of the National Day celebrations under the theme “Moving from Me to We”.

The innovative event focused on the development and engagement of Qatari national staff and was attended by Commercial Bank CEO Abdulla Saleh al-Raisi, three high-profile Qatari guest speakers and Qatari employees working at the bank.

The purpose of the event was to provide the bank’s Qatari employees with inspiration and motivation to excel in their careers within Commercial Bank and convey the management’s message that with the opportunity to develop and succeed comes the responsibility to work together and be committed to both their roles and the bank.

The event’s theme and agenda was developed to build loyalty and commitment from the Qatari staff.

In his opening address, al-Raisi stressed that Commercial Bank is a Qatari bank for Qatari staff and Qatari customers. “As Commercial Bank approaches its 40th anniversary, we must build on our long prestigious heritage by focusing on our future. In the past, Commercial Bank’s development has mirrored the growth and success of Qatar as we have shared the same journey together. Today, we are working hard to support Qatar’s future and the 2030 National Vision, particularly by developing our most important assets: our employees. We invest heavily in our Qatari nationals by supporting the development and acceleration of their careers to become the future leaders of Commercial Bank and Qatar’s private sector.”

Al-Raisi reminded employees that Commercial Bank continues to be one of the best places to work in within Qatar and that he considered everyone present in the room to be part of the bank’s future.

The staff heard inspirational speeches from leading figures in Qatari society - Olympic medal winner and 10-time Middle East champion Nasser Saleh al-Attiyah, charity and humanitarian activist Ghanem al-Muftah and Dr Khalid al-Naama, a specialist in psychological studies. The speakers were chosen as they serve as role models, proving that with determination and perseverance, “everything is possible”, as believed by the bank’s founders and current management.

Al-Attiyah spoke about how his team was an essential part of his local and international success in rally driving and how it is vital to work with people who have a good team spirit and who will support one’s mission.

Building on al-Attiyah’s speech, al-Muftah spoke on how taking responsibility for his development and actions helped him overcame his disability, while Dr al-Naama focused on why personal accountability and loyalty are the keys to success.

Commercial Bank staff members were further inspired by taking part in a creative team-building exercise involving painting a giant canvas artwork to help promote increased workplace motivation and communication.

The picture will be displayed in the bank as a reminder of the event and the key messages that were conveyed.

Sharoq al-Malki, chief human capital officer of Commercial Bank, said: “I hope this event will motivate our employees to focus their attention on being committed, responsible and accountable to both themselves as individuals and Commercial Bank as an organisation.”

Maryam Abdullah, head of Marketing Affairs at Commercial Bank, added: “We have heard inspirational talks from our guest speakers and their messages of teamwork, determination, loyalty and pride will translate well into the business environment at Commercial Bank.”

Commercial Bank employee Abdulhameed Hashim al-Yousef said: “I’m proud to be a Qatari national and grateful for the wide range of support and opportunities available at Commercial Bank. The event has inspired and engaged me in my career working with Commercial Bank.”
