Officials representing Qatar and Azerbaijan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) yesterday on co-operation in the field of information and communications technologies (ICTs) on the sidelines of the ongoing ITU Telecom World 2014 at Qatar National Convention Centre.

The MoU was signed by HE the Minister of Information and Communications Technology Dr Hessa Sultan al-Jaber and Azerbaijan Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Prof Ali Abbasov.

It aims at considering useful and successful exchange and collaboration in the field of ICT, promoting and enhancing co-operation and exchanges to further enhance the development and adoption of ICT, as well as sharing the experience and knowledge through study visits or knowledge transfer.

Following the signing ceremony, HE Dr al-Jaber and Abbasov visited the booths of the ministry’s affiliated companies, including Qatar National Broadband Network, Qatar Satellite Company (Es’hailSat) and Qatar Assistive Technology Centre (Mada), among others. The Azerbaijani delegation was also briefed on the activities of the affiliates and the services they provide.    

HE Dr al-Jaber also met with a Djibouti delegation headed by Ali H Bahdon, Minister of Communications in charge of Posts & Telecommunications, and a Palestinian delegation headed by Dr Allam Moussa, Minister of Telecommunications & Information Technology.

HE the Minister also met an Iranian delegation headed by Dr Mahmoud Vaezi, Minister of information & Communication Technology. They explored means to enhance co-operation in the field of ICT.

Further, she met with an Algerian delegation headed by Minister of Post, Information Technology and Communication Dr Zahra Dardouri and a Somali delegation led by Minister of Post and Telecommunications Mahmoud Ibrahim.
