Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) recently held a workshop in co-operation with the Ministry of Municipality & Urban Planning (MMUP), CGIS & BPC Departments, the Centre for Geographic Information Systems and the Building Permit Complex Department.

The workshop centred on the importance of applying Qatar National Datum QND95, a comprehensive geodetic datum for topographic mapping used as a spatial reference system in Qatar.

The event, held in the presence of engineering consulting offices, came as part of Qatar Rail’s ongoing co-ordination with its governmental stakeholders towards adopting the highest standards in all its projects’ phases.

The workshop included discussions on the importance of dealing with QND95, a clarification about the datum specifications, the difference between ‘Level of Zero’ and QND95, as well as the problematic using  of ‘Zero Level’ elevations.

Hassan Ahmed al-Marwani, senior technical interface manager at Qatar Rail, commented: “Qatar Rail projects fall under the strategic Qatar National Vision 2030 developed by our country’s wise leadership with the aim of turning Qatar into one of the most advanced states at the global level. In our company, we are keen to comply with the highest standards in all areas related to our works, and the QND95, is one to which our company shows commitment.”

Mubarak al-Naeimi, manager, Building Permit Complex Department at MMUP, said: “We are holding this workshop out of necessity for all engineering consulting offices to fulfill the standardised QND95 in all their submitted plans and drawings. In the future, we will issue a circular to all engineering consulting offices to comply with the QND95 system.” 

The event was marked by the presence of more than 200 representatives from the consulting offices as well as MMUP representativess.
