A cricket tournament to be held at West End Park Stadium featuring teams representing four Asian communities will be one of the major attractions of this year's Qatar National Day celebrations.
Titleholders Pakistan, runners-up Bangladesh, and Sri Lankan and Indian teams will participate in the day-long tournament.
The winners, runners-up and the third placed teams will be rewarded with cash prizes, it was disclosed at a meeting of expat communities hosted by the Ministry of Interior on Sunday.
School teams winning competitions will be awarded QR7,000 while those coming second will be awarded QR5,000, those placed third will get QR3,000, and QR2,000 will go to the teams standing fourth.
The day's proceedings will feature tug-of-war competitions involving expatriate groups. It will be held between 12noon and 3pm.
Students will compete in thematic Qatari performances as well as general shows and songs.
The school competitions will be followed by a cultural extravaganza by participating communities. Each community will showcase a set of shows and performances featuring the rich culture and traditions of Qatar.
Expat groups will also present a number of performances that highlight the culture and traditions of their respective countries. A football tournament between teams representing participating community groups, companies and schools will be held at Wakrah, Rayyan and Al Khor sports clubs.
There will be facilities for blood and sugar check-up, traffic awareness sessions, first-aid training etc.
Winners of the football competitions will be given a prize money of QR3,000 with the runners-up getting QR2,000.
Entry is free and special seating arrangements will be made for families at all venues. Arrangements will be made for companies to bring their workforce.
