Qatar Charity (QC) has sent a relief convoy comprising 11 trucks (110 tonnes) of aid to Syria, helping 5,000 families with 6,800 children cope with the winter.

The aid consists of winter clothing and food valued at QR2mn and falls within QC’s “Warmth Campaign”, which is implemented for the benefit of displaced and refugee Syrians through the winter in continuation of QC’s relief efforts for Syrians within Syria as well as those living as refugees in neighbouring countries.

The convoy included food basket containing sugar, lentils, flour, beans, oil, pasta and other basic foodstuffs in addition to 6,000 blankets.

The convoy was designed to lend a helping hand to Syrians displaced inside the country, particularly those in areas not reached by aid from other organisations and associations, concentrating on the most important humanitarian needs according to circumstances and place, with a special focus on women and children.

The aid aims to cover the needs of displaced people during the winter season, including items such as clothing, food, mattresses, blankets and other means of heating.

In April, QC sent a convoy of 104 trucks - carrying various relief materials - to the Syrian interior as part of the “I Need You to Live” campaign. The aid was sent from the city of Mersin in southern Turkey before entering Syria via the Bab al-Salamah, Bab al-Hawa and Yalda border crossings in order to target areas with a large number of refugees.

The aid benefited more than 264,000 Syrians over three months and included food such as rice, lentils, flour, oil, milk and biscuits as well as non-food items, distributed to the most affected, with a particular focus on orphans and female-headed families.

A total of 300 trucks were sent - 104 by QC and the rest by 28 humanitarian organisations from 15 countries.

The convoy included more than 650 tonnes of flour, 14,000 food baskets containing 675,000kg of rice, 375,000kg of lentils and 250,000kg of bulgur wheat as well as biscuits for children, water, milk, baby food and other babycare items, detergent, mattresses, medicines and medical equipment.

The convoys aim to alleviate the suffering of the Syrians and are part of QC’s focus on food, health and shelter in support of the Syrian people.
