Qatar Charity (QC) has implemented 297 income-generating projects in Burkina Faso for the benefit of 2,000 poor and unemployed people living in remote and poor areas.

The projects include agriculture, manual labour and ownership of livestock. QC has implemented the projects with the aim of providing sustainable employment so as to enable the beneficiaries to improve their standard of life.

Some 100 cows, 150 sewing machines, 40 ploughs and seven mills were provided at a total cost of QR560,000.

The projects targeted youth and women’s associations, young unemployed people, female-headed households (including widows and divorced women) and others experiencing difficult economic
circumstances.

QC began by conducting field studies in the selected areas to identify the needs of the target groups and the potential for success.

The projects cover the areas of Ouagadougou, Zanyary, Dzimuru, Oaheguaa and Kiriba.

The projects have been met with praise from a wide range of government agencies and NGOs, which deemed them to be making a significant contribution to community development that meets the consolidation requirements of sustainable development - one of the most important developmental goals the government of Burkina Faso hopes to achieve.

In a press statement, Ouedraogo Salima, mayor of Korzimuru, north of the capital, said: “Qatar Charity is a development organisation that works with full clarity and transparency and implements projects that work directly for the eradication of poverty and unemployment, especially for young people, women and
people with special needs.”

She thanked QC, Qatar, its people, government and leadership for their support and contributions to ease the burden of the poor and meet the urgent and essential needs of thousands of needy families in Burkina Faso.

QC has a number of projects in Burkina Faso, including a variety of income-generating projects, such as the provision of sewing machines for the Association of Wellbeing for Humanity in the capital, Ouagadougou, and a grain mill for Zemstaaba in the state of Yakovi.

QC’s projects focus on areas with a high concentration of poor people and include the provision of safe drinking water, construction of educational and health facilities, and educational, income-generating and seasonal projects.
