Some 1,555 cargos of tyres were imported into the country from April until the end of September this year, according to the periodical report of Qatar General Organization for Standardisation at the Ministry of Environment (MoE).

This amounts to around 2mn tyres as each cargo contains about 1,500- 2,000 tyres. Only some 1,490 cargos were approved by MoE as they are compliant with the approved Qatar technical regulations and standards: GSO51, HSO52, GSO53 and others.

Also, each cargo had a GCC standards compliance certificate that proves that the tyres had passed all the necessary safety and security tests on the roads, and had the required quality and durability. The certificate also indicates that such tyres have the grade A temperature classification recommended for the GCC region.

The rejected cargos of tyres did not have GCC standards compliance certificate.

The total number of the cargos of electric appliances imported during the same period amounted to 671, containing hair dryers, electric irons, and fans.

Some 613 of these were approved because of compliance with approved international standards in this respect. The rejected cargos did not have a compliance certificate from an ISO 17205 accredited laboratory.

Qatar General Organisation for Standardisation has advised both suppliers and importers to abide by the set regulations in this regard.
