Some 50 participants, including professional event organisers, had attended the “Exhibitions in Qatar: Achieving Global Standards” workshop organised by the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA).

Representatives from the public and private sectors in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing, and Exhibitions (Mice) industry have gathered at the Qatar National Convention Centre to discuss various tourism issues such as health and safety standards for exhibitions and the obligations
of exhibition organisers.

Topics covered in the workshop included ways to create and develop world-class exhibitions and meet the standards of the Global Association of the Exhibition
Industry (UFI).

The activity also tackled exhibition auditing processes and benefits, as well as several other topics related to tourism.

In a press statement, QTA said the workshop is part of their efforts to increase the number of exhibitions approved by the UFI. It also aims to share common goals and objectives between QTA and the exhibitions organisers
in Qatar.

“We want every step we take and every effort we make to have a positive and lasting impact on the Mice sector,” said Hamad al-Abdan, director of exhibitions at QTA.

He believes the move will lead to a successful and sustainable tourism industry in the country.

“This is why we organise such workshops, which allow exchanges of views and discussions with decision-makers and event organisers to serve and develop the Mice industry based on international standards,” said al-Abdan.

He added that they had been striving to develop the tourism sector in light of its increasing importance in the national economy.

Citing its continuous growth, al-Abdan noted that tourism in Qatar has expanded the activities of the Qatari economy.

“This was evident in the annual tourism results, which showed increases in the number of tourists and tourism revenues, contributing to the increase in the GDP,” said the QTA official.
