About 700 students from 16 schools have confirmed participation in the 18th Indian Women’s Association (Qatar) Centrepoint Inter-School Quiz competition’s preliminary round to be held at Birla Public School tomorrow (October 30).

The final of the event, featuring six teams of three members each would be held on October 31 (Friday). It is scheduled to start at 5pm.

The quiz show, which is one of the most sought after inter-school competitions in the country has grown with each passing year.

Like in the previous years, there will be a lot of prizes up for grabs, said the organisers yesterday. This year, too, the audience has an equal chance of winning many attractive prizes for answering questions, specially tailored for them. The quiz show will be hosted by actor/anchor, Mohan Kapoor, who also hosted the Star Plus Babyshop Quiz competition and last year’s contest.

Until three years ago, the show used to be anchored by widely acclaimed quiz master Derrick O’ Brien. However, his other commitment as official spokesperson of Trinamool Congress (TC) Party, which governs the eastern Indian state of Bengal, has prevented him from hosting the event since 2011.  Last year, the keenly contested show saw Doha Modern Indian School pull off a surprise and win the coveted title. DPS-MIS finished second and Birla Public School were third.

Gulf Times is the official media. Though there were quiz shows for schools in Qatar at intervals, the IWA event is the only competition that has been held continuously since its inception.
