Ashghal yesterday awarded design contracts for building additional facilities for the emergency department at Hamad General Hospital.

As the first step a QR27.5mn design contract has been awarded to a consortium comprising Arab Engineering Bureau and Cuningham. The expanded building is expected to be ready in the second quarter of 2017, Ashghal president Nasser Ali al-Mawlawi said while announcing the awarding of the contract yesterday.

Similarly, a design contract worth QR27.2mn has been awarded for the National Laboratories in Mesaimeer. The project, to be spread over 15,000 sq m, is expected to be ready by the last quarter of the next year.

The proposed lab would have facilities for specialised tests for food safety,  safety and quality of medical drugs, environmental protection and emergency response.

Yesterday’s contracts-awarding ceremony held at St Regis Hotel also featured the awarding of design and construction supervision contracts for five health centres in Al Mashaf, Ain Khaled, Al Wakrah Al Khor and Al Shamal. A total amount of QR48mn was earmarked for the purpose.
