The Qatar premiere of the critically acclaimed, award-winning production of The Sound of Music will be held at Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) next month.

State Media, in association with Popular Productions, will present six performances of the show from November 26 to 29.

Considered by many to be the most successful movie musical in history, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music was the recipient of five Oscars, including Best Picture. Its soundtrack stands in history as the best-selling musical of all time, going Platinum more than 12 times.

The landmark score includes some of the most loved songs in the American songbook, including ‘My Favourite Things’, ‘Edelweiss’, ‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain’, “Do Re Mi,” ‘The Lonely Goatherd’, ‘Sixteen Going on Seventeen’ and the title song.

The Sound Of Music recalls the touching memories of Maria and the von Trapp family, and their struggles as their homeland of Austria faces up to Nazi conversion during the Anschluss, just prior to World War II.

The musical will be one of the region’s most anticipated and exciting theatrical events of the year, according to a statement.

The production features a host of lavish costumes, beautiful sets and a stunning live orchestra, and stars a cast of 26 of the best from London’s West End singers and actors, the statement adds.

The cast will include Lucy Hunter James who returns in the lead role of Maria, which she played to acclaim in both Dubai and Bahrain. Further casting will be announced shortly.

The Sound of Music, presented in Qatar by State Media, is produced by John Payton and Lucy Magee for Popular Productions. It is directed and musically staged by Payton, with musical direction by Spencer James, set design by Cleo Pettit and Payton, lighting by Paul Gould, costumes by Anna Saunders and sound by Bo Collier.

Tickets for the performance, which lasts approximately two hours and 40 minutes, including an interval, could be booked online at the Virgin Megastore site.
