Qatar Charity (QC) has distributed 5,500 schoolbags among Syrian students across Jordan at a cost of QR340,700.

The bags contain books, pencils, pens, erasers, pencil sharpeners and crayons.

The distribution was made over two weeks and included several provinces of Jordan, including the capital, Amman, and the governorates of Irbid, Zarqa, Ajloun, Jerash, Karak, Tafileh, Maan and Mafraq.

The project was aimed at easing the burden of tuition costs for families,

It was carried out within the framework of the “Competitors 2 Campaign”, which is valued at QR7.113mn, and included the construction of mobile homes at a cost of QR2mn, funding for house rents valued at QR1,928,000, food aid worth QR1,536,000, development projects worth QR400,000, furniture and electricity worth around QR400,000 and health projects valued at QR400,000.

QC co-ordinated with different centres and schools to facilitate the distribution.

Small, medium and large bags were distributed according to the children’s age, sex and the level of need at the school.

The young Qataris who participated in “Competitors 2” made two visits to Jordan in the first half of the year, helping launch projects for the benefit of Syrian refugees valued at over QR7mn funded by donation contests.

Among the projects was the opening of the largest mosque in Zaatari camp, accommodating more than 500 worshipers. An ultrasound screening machine was also provided, facilitating tests for around 2,000 patients a month, around 70 a day of whom will be pregnant women. Medicines were distributed to the most important health centres in the camp, as well as household supplies and equipment
for Syrian families in Amman.

This was in addition to care for orphans, distribution of food and drinking water, opening of another mosque in the Nadha area of Mafraq, distribution of copies of the Qur’an and special gifts to QC-sponsored orphans in Amman.
